Deconditioning Rehabilitation

Specialised care focused on mobility, balance, strength, and independence to support healthy ageing and quality of life.

Deconditioning Rehabilitation

Deconditioning Rehabilitation at Physimed Health is designed to help individuals who have experienced loss of strength, stamina, and physical function due to prolonged inactivity, illness, hospitalisation, injury, surgery, or age-related decline. Deconditioning often leads to reduced mobility, muscle weakness, fatigue, slowed movement, and difficulty performing simple daily tasks — all of which can significantly impact independence and quality of life.

Our goal is to safely rebuild strength, improve cardiovascular endurance, restore movement confidence, and support individuals in returning to the activities they enjoy.

Our Deconditioning Rehabilitation program begins with a comprehensive assessment to identify specific areas of weakness, mobility limitations, and functional goals. Based on this assessment, our physiotherapists create a personalised rehabilitation plan which may include progressive strengthening, cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility training, balance and gait retraining, and functional movement exercises. This structured approach helps prevent further decline while restoring physical capacity at a safe and sustainable pace.

We also recognise the emotional side of deconditioning — including reduced motivation, loss of confidence, or fear of movement. Our physiotherapists provide ongoing encouragement, education, and goal-setting to ensure clients stay engaged and progress steadily throughout their program.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower clients to rebuild strength, regain endurance, and restore independence through evidence-based rehabilitation. We are dedicated to helping individuals overcome physical decline and return to a life that is active, capable, and confident.

Our Goal

Our goal is to provide comprehensive, individualised care that improves muscle strength, cardiovascular health, balance, and functional movement. Through structured exercise progression and one-on-one physiotherapy support, we aim to help clients move with greater stability, energy, and self-assurance — both at home and in the community.

Frequently asked questions

The aim of your initial visit is to establish what your problems are, how they got there and how to correct them. Once we have that information we sit down with you, discuss our findings and the treatment options available to you before any treatment is commenced.

Chiropractors are highly specialised professionals who have undergone an extensive lengthy university training program on how to deliver safe and effective care.

In terms of statistics, there is approximately a one in five million chance that spinal manipulation of the neck may be associated with damage (major or minor) to the blood supply of the brain.

The purpose of our physical examination is to assess your condition so that we choose the most appropriate technique for you. We believe that our expertise and experience enables us to provide the safest possible care. None of our chiropractors have ever had an incident and pride ourselves in patient safety.

An adjustment is not normally painful. In some cases, mild soreness to the area adjusted may follow. This is typically a normal part of the healing process where an area of the spine has been rersticted for a long period is now moving better.

Some adjusting methods can produce a popping sound when the gas and fluids in the joint shift. It’s much like opening a bottle of champagne or removing a suction cup. The sound isn’t a guide to the quality or need of the adjustment It is a common misconception that the noise is bones going back in place or rubbing on each other, this is definitely false!

There are many techniques that do not involve “manipulation” that we can use to correct neck problems. We will only include neck adjustments in your treatment if there is an objective clinical reason for doing so. We don’t include neck adjustments in your treatment if there are any indications that you would be at risk. Talk to us about your concerns.

No. We treat many patients who suffer from osteoporosis. Indeed, regular chiropractic care may help to protect patients from falls (and therefore osteoporotic fractures) by optimizing joint mobility, range of motion, balance and muscle tone. To correct spinal problems with patients suffering from osteoporosis we use specific low force techniques that allow for the brittleness and fragility of the bones

No. Some people can make their joints “pop,” but that’s not an adjustment! Cracking your spine is not the same as having your chiropractor assess your spine and specifically adjust selected joints. Worse, damage can occur by mobilizing a joint with weakened muscles and ligaments. Adjustments are so specific even your chiropractor can’t adjust themself.

Whilst some patients experience almost instant relief nearly all patients are feeling improvement in one to two weeks. There are many factors that affect your rate of healing such as your age, the type of injury, your general health and how long you have had the problem. Every person is different and so rates of healing will differ.

During your visits you’ll be presented with information regarding the objectives of each phase of care and the optimum type and duration of care needed to achieve these results. Once you have this information it is your decision to choose the type of care you require. How long you go to a chiropractor is always your choice and depends entirely on your personal goals for your health.

Many pregnant mums receive chiropractic care. Mothers often find that chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy improve their back pain, help prepare them for childbirth and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Our adjusting methods are always adapted to a patient’s size, weight, age, and condition of health to provide the most suitable care.
