Kinesiology Taping

Elastic therapeutic taping that supports muscles and joints, reduces pain and swelling, and allows full, unrestricted movement during activity.

Support, Stability & Freedom of Movement

Kinesiology Taping is a flexible, therapeutic taping technique used to support muscles and joints without restricting movement. At PhysiMed Health, kinesiology tape is commonly used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for musculoskeletal injuries, sports performance, and inflammation management.

The tape is a thin, stretchy, elastic cotton strip with a medical-grade acrylic adhesive. It closely mimics the thickness and elasticity of human skin, allowing it to move naturally with your body—providing support without binding or limiting mobility.

How Kinesiology Taping Works

When applied correctly, kinesiology tape gently lifts the skin, creating space between the skin and underlying tissues. This can help:

  • Reduce pain and pressure on injured tissues
  • Improve circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Support muscles during movement
  • Enhance joint awareness and stability
  • Reduce inflammation and swelling

Because it moves with your body, kinesiology tape allows you to continue daily activities and exercise comfortably.

Conditions Treated With Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping is effective for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Muscle strains and overuse injuries
  • Joint instability
  • Inflammatory conditions
  • Postural support and correction

It is often used alongside physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or exercise rehabilitation to support recovery.

Kinesiology Taping in Sport & Performance

Kinesiology taping is widely used by professional and elite athletes to:

  • Improve sporting performance
  • Reduce injury risk
  • Support injured areas during competition
  • Accelerate return to sport

Its ability to provide support without restricting movement makes it ideal for active individuals at all levels.

Comfortable, Durable & Practical

Kinesiology tape is lightweight, breathable, and designed to stay on for several days. It is water-resistant and can be worn during sport, work, or everyday activities.

Frequently asked questions

Dry Needling is a procedure whereby solid filament (acupuncture) needles are inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial triggerpoint. A myofascial triggerpoint (sometimes known as a knot) consists of multiple contraction knots, which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle. The approach is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles which are not to be confused with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique of acupuncture (Travell & Simons 1999).
Dry needling can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems. Muscles are thought to be a primary contributing factor to the symptoms. Conditions which respond to dry needling include, but are not limited to: • Headaches • Frozen Shoulder • Tennis elbow • Carpal tunnel syndrome • Golfer’s elbow • Buttock pain • Leg pain • Hamstring strains • Shin splints • Muscle Spasms • Fibromyalgia • Sciatic Pain • Hip Pain • Knee Pain • Repetitive Strain Injuries
A spasmed muscle becomes a damaged muscle. Spasm reduces blood flow in the muscle. This means less oxygen and nutrients to the muscle. Muscle fibres die off and get replaced by fibrous scar tissue. This in turn holds the muscle tight, prevents muscle metabolites from leaving the muscle and causes continued spasm and pain. Putting a needle into a spasmed muscle causes the muscle to relax, this can be seen with an electromyogram (EMG).
The insertion of the needle is typically not felt. During treatment, patients commonly experience heaviness in the limbs or a pleasant feeling of relaxation.
Yes, only sterile disposable needles are used.
More frequently, Dry Needling is needed at the beginning to help break the pain cycle then other treatment modalities are introduced.
